May 11 2009 My experiences today were a lot to handle. I started at 10 and worked until 5:30.At the animals hospital there are so many people working there that it’s almost scary and it’s such a small place. The First thing I did today was watch a dog get surgery and let’s just say wow it was way too early for that and it was cool but at the same time I felt so sick. My Whole Day was observing people, I helped with laundry and I helped hold animals but not many because animals are very temperamental and no one wanted me hurt. I helped clean surgical tools with all the lots of steps (never thought dishes would be that much work). I also looked at x-rays and I had to point out the broken bones and the blatter stones. Honestly I never thought that a vet office could get so busy and people running around and so full. I had to help crop a dogs ears and I had to watch people crying because they had to put their dog down. Early in the morning I also had to put a dead dog in a garbage bag and freeze it. I helped with some blood work (almost like we did on the field trip but different). My day was long and busy I felt like a lost puppy. Can’t wait until tomorrow.

Today was my second day, I started at 9 am amd worked intill 5:30 pm. Today was so much better then yesterday, not only because I did more, but because people actually realized that I was alive. Today I did the usual 10 loads of laundry and cleaned the cages. I was successful at watching another surgery and didnt feel sick at all, And because i did good in the morning surgery I got to help with the removal of the blatter stones (they are like little white rocks). I got to watch an ultrasound being done ( hard to read and understand what it is). I helped the office people with some filing, there was alot to file. I must say after yesterday i didnt want to be a vet anymore but after today I really would love to. I get to do so much everyday, its overwhelming. I helped take glucose levels in blood in a few animals and i was shown how to pull and clean teath. After the surgeries I was in charge of keeping the animals warm, because they cant keep warm when they get put to sleep. My day was very eventfull and next week should be good hopefully I will be able to help out more, seeing how I cant do much because im lacking alot of education. I sent Mr Tong the safety sheet but the fax machine was broken.....or the schools was turned off, as i was told and then I got busy again so i will get a friend to bring it to school if she can. If not then i dont know.

Today when i walked into the Hospital I started working on laundry, because there was so much and it kept coming and it needed to be done.
I did this for about 4 hours ( it took alot longer then i expected). After my lunch I helped clean cages, and I did some more laundry ( mostly folded and put in the closet). Today was a slow day because there were only 3 doctors in, and there was only 2 surgeries ( i watched both and it doesnt bother me at all). Then I swept the hospital and mopped aswell. After that I wraped sx packs, and that took about an hour because they have to be wraped in a special way and then heated to besure they are clean for surgery. The last thing i did for the day was help clean the back, and place evertything on racks with wheels, because it was floor day and the floors were going to be waxed and everything has to fit into one run (runs are the larger cages for the larger dogs ), so that the floors can be properly cleaned.

This was my last day working at newton animal hospital. Today felt fast, the animal hospital was very busy and I started my day like every other day working with doing laundry. Once I was done with the laudry i then started to clean all the cages, then once again I did laundry again. After lunch i helped give a dog stiches, it was close to the eye so i had to hold the dog down while the doctor put the stiches in. After that I wasted the dishes that we used durring the day and folded more blankets and towels. I held some animals for the doctors so they could get their shots and I preped animals for surgery, I fed animals and gave then their pills aswell. For the last hour of my shift I did that garbages, swept and moped the floors, and i helped file the files for the day. I had a good time at the animal hospital and even though I spent most of my time doing laundry i did have fun watching things that I dont think I would have ever gotten to see im my life before i go to school and by that time it maybe late to change my mind and i think that I would still love to be a vet.
